Electropolishing
Electropolishing is a surface treatment process in which metal parts are subjected to anodic electrochemical etching, causing the dissolution rate of microscopic protrusions to exceed that of recessed areas. This gradually reduces the surface’s micro‑roughness, ultimately yielding a mirror‑like, highly polished finish.
Electropolishing and Passivation: Key Benefits:
a.****** machining stresses and oxides
b. Does not alter the substrate dimensions
c. Stabilizes the surface properties of metals and enhances their corrosion resistance.
d. Does not alter weldability.
e. Does not cause hydrogen embrittlement or decarburization.
f. Enhanced wear resistance
Advantages of electrolytic polishing:
1. The polished surface does not develop a modified layer, eliminates residual stresses, and can remove or reduce the existing stress layer.
2. It can machine hard and soft materials that are difficult to polish mechanically, as well as thin-walled parts, components with complex shapes, and small, delicate workpieces.
3. The polishing time is short, and multiple parts can be polished simultaneously, resulting in high production efficiency.
4. It can be used on metal products and parts with low surface roughness, improving their surface finish by two grades.
